Psalms 106

Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Help.

1
Or Hallelujah!
Praise
Heb Yah
the Lord!
Oh cgive thanks to the Lord, for He dis good;
For eHis mercy is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the fmighty deeds of the Lord,
Or can proclaim all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who maintain
Or judgment
justice,
Many Heb mss The one who performs
Who ipractice righteousness at all times!

4 Remember me, Lord, in Your jfavor
Lit of
toward Your people.
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 So that I may see the lprosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may mrejoice in the joy of Your nation,
That I may nboast with Your
I.e., people
inheritance.

6 pWe have sinned
Lit with
,
rlike our fathers,
We have gone astray, we have behaved wickedly.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your
I.e., wonderful acts
wonders;
They tdid not remember
Lit the multitude of Your kindnesses
Your abundant kindnesses,
But vrebelled by the sea, at the
Lit Sea of Reeds
Red Sea.
8 Nevertheless He saved them xfor the sake of His name,
So that He might ymake His power known.
9 So He zrebuked the
Lit Sea of Reeds
Red Sea and it abdried up,
And He acled them through the mighty waters, as through the wilderness.
10 So He adsaved them from the
Or power
hand of one who hated them,
And afredeemed them from the
Or power
hand of the enemy.
11 ahThe waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they aibelieved His words;
They ajsang His praise.

13 They quickly akforgot His works;
They aldid not wait for His plan,
14 But ambecame lustfully greedy in the wilderness,
And anput God to the test in the desert.
15 So He aogave them their request,
But apsent a
Or leanness into their soul
wasting disease among them.

16 When they became arenvious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,
17 The asearth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the
Or assembly, band
company of Abiram.
18 And a aufire blazed up in their
Or assembly, band
company;
The flame consumed the wicked.

19 They awmade a calf in Horeb,
And worshiped a cast metal image.
20 So they axexchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They ayforgot God their Savior,
Who had done azgreat things in Egypt,
22
I.e., Wonderful acts
,
bbWonders in the land of Ham,
And awesome things by the
Lit Sea of Reeds
Red Sea.
23 Therefore bdHe said that He would destroy them,
If beMoses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they bfrejected the bgpleasant land;
They bhdid not believe His word,
25 But bigrumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore He
Lit lifted up His hand
,
bkswore to them
That He would have them fall in the wilderness,
27 And that He would blbring down their
Lit seed
descendants among the nations,
And bnscatter them in the lands.

28 They also bofollowed
Or Baal of Peor
Baal-peor,
And ate bqsacrifices offered to the dead.
29 So they brprovoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And a plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas bsstood up and
Or pronounced judgment
intervened,
And so the buplague was brought to a halt.
31 And it was bvcredited to him as righteousness,
To all generations forever.

32 They also bwprovoked Him to wrath at the waters of
Lit strife
Meribah,
So that it bywent badly for Moses on their account.
33 Because they bzwere rebellious against
Or his spirit
His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They cbdid not destroy the peoples,
As ccthe Lord had commanded them,
35 But cdthey got involved with the nations
And learned their
Lit works
practices,
36 And cfserved their idols,
cgWhich became a snare to them.
37 They even chsacrificed their sons and their daughters to the cidemons,
38 And shed cjinnocent blood,
The blood of their cksons and their daughters
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was cldefiled with the blood.
39 So they became cmunclean in their
Lit works
practices,
And
Or prostituted themselves
,
cpwere unfaithful in their deeds.

40 Therefore the cqanger of the Lord was kindled against His people,
And He crloathed His
I.e., people
,
ctinheritance.
41 So cuHe handed them over to the
Or Gentiles
nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also cwoppressed them,
And they were subdued under their
Lit hand
power.
43 Many times He would cyrescue them;
They, however, were rebellious in their czplan,
And they dasank down into their guilt.

44 Nevertheless He looked at their distress
When He dbheard their cry;
45 And He dcremembered His covenant for their sake,
And
Lit was sorry
,
derelented dfaccording to the greatness of His mercy.
46 He also made them dgobjects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.

47 dhSave us, Lord our God,
And digather us from the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And djglory in Your praise.
dkBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
And all the people shall say, “Amen.”
Or Hallelujah!
Praise
Heb Yah
the Lord!
